Held at Evolution in Battersea Park and hosted by Hugh Dennis, the awards aim to recognise and reward the efforts of the events industry which has been particularly affected by the global pandemic.
Open to all venues over 10,000sqm based in the UK, judges were focusing on a venue’s “quantity and diversity of events, ESG strategies, how the venue has improved facilities, its commitment to working with organisers and D&I strategies”.
Judges were particularly impressed with aspects such as ExCeL’s commitment to investment through its infrastructure and expansion programmes, being the first UK venue to sign up to the Women In Exhibitions organisation and its wide range of events, most notably hosting the world’s first indoor/outdoor race via Formula E.
It is the third time the Royal Docks venue has won the award with members of the team, led by CEO Jeremy Rees, taking to the stage to collect the top prize.
Other venues shortlisted for the award including the Scottish Event Campus, Manchester Central and NEC Birmingham.
In addition, the night saw recognition for Executive Chairman Kevin Murphy OBE who was presented with the prestigious ‘Pioneer Award’ in recognition of his contribution to the events industry.
