London is still the most popular event destination in the world

21 September 2015

For the fifth time in the last seven years, London has beaten rivals Paris and Bangkok to the top spot.

Boris Johnson boldly declared London 'the greatest city in the world' and this is an opinion that echoes far and wide with regards to top destinations for delivering events.

For the fifth time in the last seven years, London has beaten rivals Paris and Bangkok to the top spot, having been crowned the most popular capital city in the world from a list compiled by MasterCard.

With just over 18.7million people visiting London in 2014, the figures are set to rise, with an expected 18.9million by the end of 2015.

Discussing this trend with international events agency, First Protocol, they confirmed that a third of their events in 2014 were delivered in London, for clients including CVC, Prudential, Apax Partners, Apollo and Pantheon.

The reasons for such popularity are clear: it is the most connected city globally, 75% of the world’s top 500 companies have an office in the capital and there are 120,000 hotel rooms.

London has benefited from huge amounts of investment, creating better and greener transport links, a greater range of accommodation, and regenerated areas full of new attractions, venues and restaurants. With the tube trialling a 24-hour service from September this year, London continues to impress delegates year after year with energy, diversity and creativity like no other city in the world.
