It is the first time the event will be taking place in the UK. London has been chosen as the host city as it represents the heart of global data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning research, with the capital topping the European investment charts for funding into fast growing sectors such as, artificial intelligence, cyber security and Fintech. The organisers have chosen ExCeL to host the conference, given the combination of London’s prominence in the technology sector and the venue’s vast and resilient network infrastructure, flexible event space and growth potential.
Aldo Faisal, publicity chair for KDD and Associate Professor in Data Science at Imperial College London says, “KDD coming to the London ExCeL is both a reflection of the explosive growth in data science and AI, and a testimony to the city’s global leadership in it.”
The move to London was also supported by London & Partners. Suzanne Singleton, Head of Associations London & Partners said, “London is Europe’s leading tech hub and our strengths in data science and artificial intelligence make it a natural place to host the first KDD conference outside of America and Asia. With world class venues such as ExCeL London, excellent international transport connections and a strong cultural offering, London remains one of the most popular global destinations for technology focussed meetings and events. Last week we welcomed over 50,000 visitors from over 70 countries for London Tech Week, offering further proof of London’s international appeal for technology and business travellers.”
Commenting on the move to ExCeL, Andrew Swanston, Head of Sales, said “we are delighted to be the host venue for KDD2018. London is one of the world’s leading tech hubs and this event sits perfectly within ExCeL’s technology portfolio, demonstrating the attraction of our venue and Capital City for cutting-edge conferences. We look forward to working with ACM, helping them to deliver their most successful event ever, for their delegates.”
KDD is a leading interdisciplinary conference bringing together researchers and practitioners from data science, data mining and large-scale data analytics. Taking place over five days, the conference brings together thousands of professionals to listen to the top data scientists share their knowledge to advance the application of data science, expand their expertise and discuss novel ideas with industry peers. Delegates can learn from leading experts in the world of applied data mining and knowledge discovery with a series of invited talks, half day workshops and tutorial sessions.
