EAG International Expo Comes Of Age

21 May 2012

Detailed analysis of visitor statistics has confirmed a third successful year for EAG International Expo in spite of the difficult economic circumstances faced by the amusements and coin-op sectors.

Attendee numbers for the first day were the highest on record and total footfall for the three days totalled 7,006, an increase on 2011's total of 6,691. The number of individual visitors was 5,333, indicating that an increasing number of visitors chose to make return visits on different days.

The attendance figures confirmed EAG International's appeal to overseas visitors, with 31% originating from outside of the UK and all key regions showing a real growth in numbers. Unsurprisingly, the UK accounted for the largest share of visitors, followed by Italy Spain and Belgium. Sweden, Ireland, Poland and the Netherlands were also strongly represented.

Whilst the majority of visitors hailed from Europe, there were healthy numbers from South East Asia, North America and Africa. EAG's international attendance saw representatives from 61 separate jurisdictions journey to the event.

Commenting on the attendance, EAG International Expo Chairman Martin Burlin explained: "We've taken some time to carry out a highly detailed analysis prior to releasing these figures; they contain some very important messages about the show. Over 31% of visitors were operators of coastal and inland arcades a sector which, in this country, has borne the brunt of a difficult economic climate and punitive legislative proposals. The large turn-out from this core sector is a tribute to its tenacity and resilience. Bowling centres, licensed premises, FEC's, indoor play facilities and holiday parks were well represented, as were theme parks and attractions, reflecting the support of BALPPA for the show.

"Attendance by BACTA members was up, and this year we also enjoyed an influx of BALPPA members. I'm very pleased to report that we've received many favourable comments from exhibitors about the show's organisation and the standard of facilities at ExCeL.

"Top of visitors' lists of must-see items were video games, kiddie rides, AWP, air hockey, pool, change machines, redemption, pushers and cranes. It must be pointed out, however, that there were several unexpected attention grabbing products on display.

"Ultimately a show is judged on whether it attracts buyers and the level of business taking place. Our post show visitor research has highlighted the importance placed on EAG International as a place to see and engage with new products. Over 60% of those taking part in the research indicated that they would be making a purchase decision as a result of seeing products on show at this year's EAG International Expo."

As the doors closed on this year's show, the mood was overwhelmingly positive and there were many reports of confirmed orders.

NSM Music's Alex Kirby was in no doubt about the show's outcome: "We've received a number of firm orders; it's quite unusual to receive these actually at a show" he revealed.

Electocoin's Kevin Weir commented that they had been busier than the previous year and that they had enjoyed a good show: "We've had huge interest in Vegas Strip, our latest Category C, B3 and B4 title and IGS's Power Truck also received an excellent reception" confirmed Kevin.

Namco Europe Prize Division also had a positive show, with the company's James Anderson reporting a high level of response from buyers whilst regular exhibitor United Distributing Company reported keen interest in VenDever's Fresh Cotton Candy Factory.

Wessex Coin's Chris Skelly had a successful show with buyers focusing on new products and Empire Games' Craig Beer also experienced strong levels of interest in their games.

EAG International Expo's is very much the industry's own show and has been quick to respond to the needs of its stakeholders. Organisers already have plans to implement new suggestions made by exhibitors and, following consultation, have brought forward the 2013 show dates.

EAG International Expo 2013 will take place at ExCeL London on 22nd-24th January 2013.
