Energy efficiency

We are committed to ensuring that events held at ExCeL London meet their objectives, whilst reducing environmental impact.

Everyone has a role to play in reducing carbon emissions, by being more energy efficient, preserving resources and making greater use of renewable energy.

We are continuously innovating, and below are some of the initiatives which have enabled us to cut carbon emissions and be more efficient with energy and water.

Using energy from renewable sources

100% of our electricity supply is from renewable sources, whilst our gas supply is carbon offset using UN credits.

Eco-friendly lighting

We are replacing our light fittings with LED eco-friendly lighting. This has resulted in a 70% energy saving per fitting.

A living wall of 9,500 plants

We have installed a living wall on the pedestrian approach to ExCeL from Custom House DLR station. This wall has over 9,500 plants that remove air pollutants, improve biodiversity, produce oxygen and decrease noise. This was launched in October 2019.

Using less water

We use waterless urinals, which save over 16 million litres of water every year. That equates to over 328 million litres of water since ExCeL opened in 2000. Pressure taps are also used in all washrooms to ensure that water usage is kept to a minimum.
