ExCeL will shortly open its 25,000sqm (270,000sqft) state-of-the-art expansion - totalling 125,000sqm (1.35m sqft) when complete - making it Europe's largest fully integrated conference and exhibition venue.
The new space will offer an additional ICC convention centre, together with exhibition halls and conference rooms, plus large airy reception and foyer areas with views across the Royal Docks - all helping to put London at the forefront of the global events industry.
On the ground floor 12,000sqm of blank canvas hall space, is complemented on the upper level with high-end convention space, modern meeting rooms and catering facilities, all seamlessly integrated into the existing venue.
As part of the project, a substantial investment is also being made in the public realm including new greenery along the dock edge, improved landscaping for pedestrians and cyclists, and a new pocket park.
In line with ExCeL's Sustainability Strategy the expansion is being built to a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of ‘Excellent’ – surpassing the recognised industry standard. As with the current venue, the electricity supply will be 100% from renewable sources, whilst the gas supply will be carbon offset.
